GET  WELL:
Wishing a speedy recovery to Lil O'Brien who is on the mend in Croom, after a fall.

BALLYHOURA  DEV:
In 2012, the Dept of the Environment issued two reports which look at the delivery of local development supports in the period 2014-2020.   In one of the reports, it seems to suggest the integration of the work of LDC's e.g. Ballyhoura and West Limerick Resources, with Limerick County Council.    We in the Development Association,  as well as others in many rural groups, believe this would be a retrograde step and if the current proposals are implemented, it will be the rural communities who are most likely to suffer.
We have already had experience of working with Ballyhoura in the refurbishment of the Community Centre.   Our enquiry regarding grant-aid
was dealt with quickly by David O'Grady, who sent on the application forms and was always at the end of the phone for any queries.
There was a huge amount of paperwork to be completed but it is better to have a transparent and effective system to make sure funding is not wasted and everything is accounted for.   We now have a refurbished, comfortable, up-to-date community centre available for all community events and occasions.
We have  also availed of their Tús Programme, to employ Pat in the Community Centre, which has been very advantageous for us, as he looks after all those jobs we put on the long finger.!    For the last twenty three years Ballyhoura has worked successfully to promote local and economic development by working with the local communities and we believe they should continue to be fully responsible for managing and delivering the community and rural development programmes.
