GRANAGH PLAYERS:
"  On the 7th Night..... the ESB said.....let there be Light .....and so there was !! "
Saturday 2nd began as a beautiful Spring day, it continued into the afternoon when Ireland beat the Welsh in a great game of rugby and we were all geared up ready for our last night in aid of the Autism Unit in Liskennett - until the lights went out !!!
As we arrived at the hall at six, the emergency lights were shining brightly inside, but there was darkness all around.  Phone call to ESB - widespread outage, not expected back until nine thirty.?   Phone call to electrician - no way of connecting generator in the hall.?   Phone call to our Chairman, in Cardiff, no help at all there, still consoling the Welsh ?    Phone call to Marian, to advise all helpers to bring flashlamps.
Phone call to Jimmy Sheehy - any ideas?    As the cast and crew arrived at seven, there were still lights in The Rock Bar and the Church, two possible venues ?    The cast began to get ready, Mary Morrissey started on the make-up by candle light, people started arriving.   In the meantime we had contact made with the Charleville crew who were working on the fault - connections, connections.!    Luckily, it didn't take them too long to discover where the fault was, they did the repairs, luckily there was no other fault and the light returned at 7.58pm,  with no further outage.   A sigh of relief all round.
Our treasurers collected the admission monies at this stage and we were ready to begin at 8.15pm.   Panic over.
We had a great audience, the actors performed as never before, we received, again, some marvelous spot prizes and the ladies provided a wonderful tea afterwards, it couldn't have gone any better.
Before the curtain closed for the last time, Marylee Stapleton presented their chairperson, Eamon McCarthy, with a cheque for €2,500.00 - on behalf of everyone who supported us,  in any way, over the last seven nights.
Once again the local community and volunteers can be very proud of themselves for being involved in another very successful seven night run of Drama.   We are going to miss meeting up each weekend now and the craic we had every night.!
I suppose its Tally - Ho  until the next time.!!
DvDs of  ' London Assurance ' are now on sale in O'Gorman's Shop.
