DRAMA - BANOGUE:
Best wishes to the producer, Mary Liston,  cast and crew of ' Many Young Men of Twenty ' as they take to the boards this weekend.
After last year's ' Moll ' we know the standard will be very high and a great night's entertainment is assured.   Lots of new faces as
well this year, with sixteen in the cast altogether.      Beginning at 8pm nightly -  November 18, 19, 20th and 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th.
Don't miss it.

SPEAKER:
Mr. Gerry Duffy, author, fitness instructor and highly acclaimed motivational speaker is doing a presentation in Colaiste Na Trocaire                    on Monday 21st Nov at 7.30pm.    His book - Who Dares, Runs - is the remarkable story of a man who went from fifty pounds
overweight to running 32 Marathons in 32 Counties in 32 Days.    He can empathise with anyone who is facing personal struggles and
challenges and can give an insight on how to overcome and emerge a stronger person.

GRANAGH  PLAYERS:
The cast are well into rehearsing this year's production -  ' Tarry Flynn ', under the guidance and direction of Jimmy Sheehy.
The play was written by Patrick Kavanagh, who was born in 1904 in Co. Monaghan.   After leaving school at twelve years of age,
he worked on the small family farm.    His earliest poems were printed in  1928, an autobiography,  ' The Green Fool '  appeared in 1938
but was withdrawn after a libel threat.    A long poem, perhaps his best,  ' The Great Hunger '  appeared in 1942, but it seemed to attract
the attention of the censor  for touching on the subject of the mental/sexual frustrations of rural life.
' Tarry Flynn ' appeared in 1948 and the author described it as ' not only the best but the only authentic account of life as it was lived in Ireland, this century '.   In 1955 he was diagnosed with cancer and had a lung removed.    At this low point he experienced a sort of poetic renewal and
published four more works.     He married in April 1967 but passed away in November the same year, in Dublin.
Tarry Flynn was dramatised by P.J.O'Connor and produced by the Abbey Theatre in 1967.   A second adaption was made by Conall
Morrison for the Abbey in 1997.
By the script, up to thirty people could be included, but we will not go for that many.   We may have to double up on some characters,  but we have sixteen and counting at the moment.   We are delighted to welcome new faces as well as our old favourites, of course !    We have Muireann O'Connor, Bruff Line, Marguerite  Lynch and Kevin Fitzgibbon ( soccer supremo, turned actor !  as he said himself ) .

LET'S  GET  COOKING:
The tickets are printed for our  Christmas Cooking Demo in the Community Centre, on Friday 9th Dec .    We have limited the number to one
hundred so everyone will have a good view and get a chance to  sample the soup, breads and desserts.    The ticket also includes  cheese /wine, tea/coffee  and a copy of the recipes .    We will have a raffle for a Hamper on the night also.   A donation from the proceeds will be given to  St. Vincent De Paul.   Tickets at €10,  available from  O' Gormans Shop and committee members.

CHOMHBHRÓN:
We send our sympathies to Jimmy Sheehy and family on the death of his uncle Fr. John, in England .   He died peacefully on Sunday 30th October and was laid to rest on 16th November.    Fr John served as a priest for more than fifty seven years.     He spent a number of years teaching  at Junior Seminary, served in the Royal Navy and spent thirty two years as Priest in Effingham, Surrey.    He celebrated his Golden Jubilee in 2004.     Solas na bhFlaitheas ar a anam.
