U8s  Cup Quarter Final :   *Shane  Shines*:
This nail biting match was played in Askeaton versus Askeaton on  Wed 18th.   Askeaton were going in favourites as they
only lost one match.    Granagh came under pressure immediately and only got the ball past the half-way line once in the first half.
Daniel Herlihy was kept on his toes and made a few fine saves in the first ten minutes.   Sean Murphy and Shane Collins came
under pressure at the back.    However they were ably assisted by Eoin Enright and Josh Lynch Raftery in midfield and Ryan
Fitzgibbon and tom Curtin, up front.    Ten minutes passed and they were a goal down after some nice moves by Askeaton.
Daniel and Eoin switched after ten minutes and Ciara English came on for Tom.   Still under pressure they made it to half time
1 - 0 down.
A completely re-energised team appeared for the second half..!     Jack O'Connor and James Stapleton were
included in the line up.   Granagh attacked from kick-off and Shane dribbled past the entire Askeaton team to put the ball in the
back of the net.   Askeaton were shell-shocked.    Five minutes later he added a second goal.    Great passing from Sean, James
and Josh, they were 2-1 up.    Askeaton applied the pressure again.    They shot from far out, got a slight block from Jack and
Eoin, unable to get a complete block on it -  meant the ball ended up in the net.   Granagh got their second wind.   Nice passing from
Ciara, Jack and Shane  who supplied Josh with the ball and he sent it to the net.   Granagh came under severe pressure for the
last five minutes but held out to win 3-2.    Other players - Shane Scully, Ben & Charlie McCarthan, Daragh Clifford, Pierce
Gavin, Liam Bennis, David Bennett and Rory Condon.    Well done to all for a great team effort.
Second Match ended 2-2.   Scorers - Liam Bennis and Daniel Herlihy.
U8s Cup Semi Final:  23/5/11:    This was a very spirited and enjoyable game versus Abbeyfeale.    Eoin Enright blocked bullets through the first half and into the second and it took eighteen minutes before the opposition penetrated the goals.    Granagh had chances early in the first
half when Josh Lynch Raftery broke through but unfortunately their goalie brought off a great save.
It was very hard to beat the back line of Daragh Clifford and Sean Murphy.   Shane Collins drew respect from Abbeyfeale, so much so that they put two men on him.    Going in a half time they were a goal down but were confident.   Abbeyfeale's top scorer went off at half time.
Granagh, in the second half had to go for it but a couple of great chances were saved by the goalie.   With ten minutes to go they were
awarded a penalty and Ciara stepped up to take it.   She beat the keeper but it was saved by the crossbar - the whole goal frame rattled !!
Abbeyfeale were too strong  for Granagh on the night and came away winners 3 - 0.   Congratulations to all the players, there were nine
Man of the Matchs' and one Girl of the Match.   The Abbeyfeale manager complimented Granagh,  saying they were the best team they had
met up to this and he also complimented the supporters/children involved on how well behaved they were.    It was a very good night and even
though the Cup Dream is over they still have the Shield Final next.
Team - Eoin Enright, Daragh Clifford, Sean Murphy, Shane Collins, James Stapleton, Josh Lynch Raftery, Tom Curtin, Ciara English,
Jack O'Connor and Daniel Herlihy.
