enough to come out twice. Next weeks jackpot is €4,200.
U10s:
Last Thursday evening, we were down to the second last match of the season, versus Old Mill, captain on the night, Eimhin O'Regan.
It rained a flood an hour beforehand but luckily remained dry for the match. A photographer from The Star was present taking photos and match details so
the team were decked out in the new gear, on loan from the U12s. The referee, Jimmy Sheehy, only charged the minimum appearance fee, this time.!
Both teams got dug in straight away and they were very well matched. The ball was up and down the field and there were many missed chances on both
sides. Jason and Calum, who were great stalwarts, were missing, but the team worked together and eventually , Richard Walsh scored 2 goals before half time.
Seamus Murphy and Kevin Clifford gave them a pep talk at half time and they came back rearing to go !
The tensions were high though and the ' Bainisteoir ' was seen walking the line, with a cigarette in hand.! None of us knew he smoked.! However, the team
put in a great display and through teamwork the goals came, Dean Kenny 2 and Sean Walsh 1. Final score 5-0 to Granagh.
Congratulations to a great team of youngsters and now they have to face the next challenge, which will mean playing Old Mill, again, in the Shield Final.
THANKS SEAMUS:
On behalf of the parents and team, I would like to say a sincere thanks to ' super-coach ' Seamus Murphy. No matter what the result of the final match is, it has
been a pleasure to follow and attend the U10 matches. It is hard to please everyone, all the time, but Seamus is one of the fairest coaches I have seen in a long
time. His aim is, that the children enjoy the matches and that as many as possible get to play. This has worked a treat because they all feel they are part of
the team and so play their hearts out, when they are put on. For the children it builds their self confidence and self-worth. Naturally the more they play, the more experience they gain which is what they need before moving on to the next level. I have seen Seamus replace a young lad, who had just scored a goal, with a
younger, less experienced player ?? How many coaches would do that ? I'm sure at the beginning of the season Seamus and the team set out to do well, but
they have done exceptionally well , without any shouting or arguing just a policy of including everyone. Seemingly there are so many coming to the U10 training
now that there may be enough for an U8s next year. The word has gone out Seamus, that should see an increase in your fee next year.!
NATIONAL SCHOOL:
Last week the school were involved in the Limerick Primary School 5-A-Side Soccer Compet in Corbally. The girls played in the blitz on Tuesday, they won
one match against Corpus Christi and drew the other with Killinure. Unfortunately they lost on goal difference. Ladies taking part - Oonagh Pierce, Jackie Chawke,
Tia Broderick, Hanora Condon, Niamh Power, Christine Lynch, Rebecca Noonan, Aine Sheehy and Lorraine Power.
On Wednesday the boys met Oola first and won 3-0, scorers Jack, Damian and Edward. Their next round was against Killinure, winning 5-2, scorers James, Jack
and Damian 1 each and Edward 2. That got them into the semi-final versus Caherline. Both teams were very well matched, however with great teamwork and great
saves by Rebecca, they won 3-2. Next round was the final versus Adare which was very hotly contested but they managed to pull it off with a score of 2-1.
They had to travel back to Corbally the following day for the final against Drum/Broadford. They put in a great effort but were beaten by a better team, 2-0.
Team Members:- Damian O'Donovan, Jack O'Donoghue, James Herlihy, Edward Sheehy, Rebecca Noonan and subs Aine Sheehy, Eimhin O'Regan.
Thanks to the teachers for involving the children in the competition, the coach Jimmy Sheehy and the parents who travelled. Mrs. McMahon looked after all, with the
breakfast rolls and every scrap was eaten.
GUITAR CLASS:
The Guitar class, who only began last September, with Susie Butler, are going to perform their end of year show on Tuesday 19th at 7.00 pm in the Community Centre. All are welcome, especially anyone who is thinking of taking up that instrument for the next term.
