Local Notes 11th March 2009

CHOMHBHRÓN:

Our sympathies are extended to Stasia O'Regan and sons, Mike, Tom & Pat on the sudden death of husband and father, Paddy, last week.
Never a man for the headlines, always in the background, he went about his daily work in his usual meticulous manner.
He was dedicated to his farming and his family and even though he had retired, he was always there with advice on how things should be
done. He was involved in all the comings and goings of his children and grandchildren which meant he was kept busy every day.
His presence will be greatly missed by all, Go raibh leaba i measc na Naomh aige.
The family would like to thank most sincerely all the friends ,neighbours and relations for their help, comfort and support at such a sad time.
Thanks also to the medical staff at the Regional Hospital for their kindness, Donie O'Grady for taking care of all the details, Fr. Lane and Johnny
Sheehan for helping with the arrangements and Mary Carroll and Siobhan Lynch for organising the choir. Many more people, too numerous to
mention, helped out in so many ways, a kind word, a phonecall, a visit or by supplying food, we hope their kindness will be rewarded, míle buiochás.

Our sympathies also to the Hickey/ O'Donoghue families on the death of Agnes O'Donoghue, Adamswood, Croagh. Her removal was from
Daffys' on Monday night with burial in Croagh on Tuesday. Solas na bhFlaitheas ar a anam.

AFTERNOON TEA DANCE:

Liam O'Sullivan will be playing for our next dance on Sunday 15th March, 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Admission E5, plus high tea and raffle.
This is our second last dance of the season, so anyone that was thinking of popping in to see what goes on, Sunday is the day.

GRANAGH UTD F.C:

Lotto results:
There was no winner of the €3,200 in the lotto draw this week.
Numbers drawn were 17. 21.26.30
Lucky dip winners of €20 each were Darren O` Hanlon Granagh, Lily O` Rourke Granagh, Lee & Sophie Fitzgibbon Granagh.
Next weeks jackpot is €3.300.

U12:
On Saturday the 7th our U12 team played host to Newcastle West in the 2nd round of the cup. An early volley on the edge of
the box from Kyle Cotter saw the hosts take an early lead, but ten minutes later Newcastle West were back on level terms
to make the half time score read 1-1. Newcastle West got in for two early goals after the break and so made a very difficult
task for Granagh to get something out of this game, but despite this the lads never gave up and Edward Sheehy did pull one
goal back from a fine solo effort but unfortunately for Granagh this was to be their last and so Newcastle West progress,
we wish them the best of luck.

U16:
Also on Saturday the 7th our U16 team were away to top of the table Carrig Celtic in the league. The lads got stuck in from
the start and really put it up to the leaders with some fine passing and great off the ball movement to trouble the hosts, and
this paid off when Patrick O` Donoghue took a long range shot only for Kieran O` Donovan to slot home the rebound and give
Granagh a well deserved lead which they took in at half time. Granagh again started brightly in the second half and knocked
the ball around with great ease but when Carrig netted from a twenty five yard free kick things were all square again. Granagh
never dropped their heads and got straight at Carrig again from the tip and it always looked like they might go on and win it
and sure enough when Conor Dillon laid a perfect pass in to Patrick O` Donoghue’s path their was only one thing on Patrick s’
mind and with a fine solo run and a superb finish it was 2-1 Granagh and three more points in the bag in this well deserved victory for Granagh.
