GHranagh News 23 Jan 2009

GRANAGH PLAYERS:

' POOR BEAST IN THE RAIN ' BY BILLY ROCHE.

We are ready to Roll .........
Our four cast members did us proud in their interview with John Prendergast on Live 95 FM last Saturday, well done to Marylee Stapleton,
Brid O'Gorman, John Bennett and Jim Chawke.

As always, we are deeply grateful to lots of people who have helped us out with items for the play. Mike Larkin, Banogue kindly gave us a CD
recording of various backround sounds. Theresa Chawke found, amongst her collection of tapes, a song recording we needed.
Eoin Butler, technical wizard that he is, transferred recordings and race commentary to CDs for us. Fiachra Liston was just a phone call away,
to get the sound system delivered. Grace McCarthy, our artist in residence, once again did a beautiful painting of ' Larkins Pub ' as well as
hand making rosettes for the Wexford supporters.! Aileen Fennessy supplied us with an original ' Breeders Cup ' print, just perfect for the
bookies. Thanks to Nora O'Keeffe for all the photographs she sent to the papers.

The Producer is piling on the pressure at this stage, no mercy being shown, in the quest for perfection.!!

We have a new cast member, this year, although he is no stranger to stage either, having been in Macra Na Feirme, during his wild years.
His many fans will be delighted he has made a return to the stage again, it is of course - Liam Kelly. He is cast as the distinguished
owner of the bookies, but Molly (Brid) discovers he is ' a bit of an aul sour grape ' . Of course it's hard to please Molly at the best of times !
This year, people will hardly recognise Joe Noonan aka ' Danger Doyle'. He has gone from the poor country carpenter last year to a townie with
a fancy twang, this year. ! He is all decked out in a three-piece suit and wow does he look well...... of course the ladies will be trying to out-do each
other to get noticed ! There are bets being taken ( by the Producer of course ) as to who will have the biggest fan base in attendance this year ??. Last
year Sean Dóta ( Johnny Murphy ) was top dog - although the Fennessy clan were not far behind.!

YOUTH CLUB:

Apologies to all our members, we were not able to get back to meeting in January, mainly due to being involved with
the Drama, so when that is over we will get going again.

GET WELL:

Sending best wishes for a full recovery to Jackie Chawke, Ballyvologue, who is in hospital at present.
Delighted to see Liz McGrath home again after a short stay in hospital.

GRANAGH UTD F.C:

Lotto Results: There was no winner of the € 2,500 in the lotto draw this week.
Numbers drawn were 2,9,14,30.
Lucky dip winners of €20 each were Mary Ita Twomey, Jenny Clifford, Maria Sheehy. Next weeks jackpot is € 2,600.

U14s:
On Saturday 17th our U14 team played host to Ferry Rangers in the first round of the cup. Granagh played against a very strong wind
in the first half but despite this Marty Roche had Granagh up one after ten minutes of play. Ferry with the wind at their backs took full
advantage and were back on level terms five minutes later and both teams went in at half time level at 1-1. Granagh took advantage of the wind in the
second half and five minutes in, Danny Shelton got on the score sheet with a well taken goal inside the area. Jack Walsh followed up with another
fine goal five minutes later and Alan Chawke put it beyond doubt midway through the half when he netted from a great solo effort to make it a final score of 4 - 1 to
Granagh. Well done to all the panel it was a great result in very testing conditions.

GRANAGH-BALLINGARRY BORD NA nÓG:

The Bord na nÓg Club held a further meeting last Monday 12th to (1) Elect a Secretary, and (2) Assistant Secretary and (3)A.O.B.
Present: Noel Lynch, Pat Herlihy, Liam Carroll, Phil Lane, John Lynch, Paul McCarthy and Rena O'Brien.
Pat Herlihy was proposed as Secretary and accepted. Phil Lane (Senior Club Chairman) congratulated Pat and welcomed
him to our Club and wished him every success in his new position. Pat has been living in our parish for a number of years and
coming from Monagea, with a strong family tradition in GAA, the future of our Bord Na nÓg is in great hands.
Phil then thanked Rena O'Brien for all her hard work and dedication during her time as Secretary.
Paul McCarthy was then elected as Assistant Secretary. Phil Lane spoke at length of all the excellent work Paul has done
during his term as Chairman of Bord Na nÓg. He stated Paul had made an enormous contribution to the development of
the underage structure in the past five years and thanked him for his contribution.
Due to decreased numbers, it was decided to enter the 13-a-side competition in Under 16 Hurling and Football. The
U14s have been entered in the 15-a-side competition in both Hurling and Football also.
Reminder : The Registration Fee for 2009 is € 5 per child and €10 per family in Bord Na nÓg. This must be paid to your
manager when training resumes.
