Local News 28th Jan 2009

GRANAGH PLAYERS:

Last weekend of Performance of ' Poor Beast in the Rain ' Friday 30th, Saturday 31st , Sunday 1st, 8pm nightly.

Well we have our first weekend down and the DVD has been recorded. The weather was very cold and wet,
same as last year which must be a good omen for us although the lads on the parking rota were probably not
impressed, ( Willie Power, Phil Fitzgerald, Tom Hickey, Seamus O'Brien.) However, the Hall was nice and cosy
as we had three new heaters installed last Summer.
The cast gave two brilliant performances and received a standing ovation Sunday night as did the producer Jimmy
Sheehy, which was richly deserved.
They gave one hundred per cent each night and provided a great nights entertainment. It is a modern play, but with the
old theme of betrayal running through it. There is a mixture of comic scenes, from the banter that goes on between the regular
customers in the bookies and the chaos when they all come back from the all Ireland.
There is an underlying story which is gradually revealed and the cause of it all is the return of the Dashing Danger Doyle ( Joe Noonan) !!
Sincere thanks to all those who have donated Raffle prizes, we were overwhelmed by your generosity.
Thanks to the ladies and gents who turned up each night to help, Anne Fitzgibbon, Eileen Noonan, Mary Boyce, Martin & Mary Carroll
Kay Chawke, Tom Noonan, Sean Cagney and Mick Houlihan. Thanks also to Denis Noonan, who did additional electrical work for us.
The DVD man had a cup of tea with us and was very reluctant to leave the kitchen after he had tasted a homemade sponge cake, which
he could not get enough of. We discovered after, it was one of Mary Morrissey's secret receipes.!
With the constant talk of recession all around, a bit of light entertainment for a few hours will do everyone the world of good....
Be sure to get to see the Play over the coming weekend as we are not in a position to extend the run this year.
