Our first week-end over and everyone was delighted to finally get on stage. Congratulations to each and every one for all their efforts and hard work in the presentation of our sixth production, which was a bit more difficult than usual.
A few minor hiccups, as always, had to be ironed out.! However, the actors gave excellent performances while the vibrant set and colourful costumes enhanced the whole production.
Our Committee members and volunteers all worked away quietly in the background and everything ran smoothly for them. We always have extra people to thank, after the programme is printed - Michael O' Donoghue, Photographer, Croom, attended two rehearsals and took some beautiful photos. Patrick C. Fitzgerald also arrived with camera and posted photos on the website www.ballingarrynews.blogspot. com as well as the local papers. Mike Kenny - Tony Connolly's Menswear - supplied our Squire, Tony Sheehan, with a beautiful waistcoat and cravat, which was required to complete his attire. Lady Spanker - Marylee Stapleton - was on the hunt for a foxes' tail and Liam Herlihy kindly supplied one, which she uses very effectively ?? Caroline Brouder supplied the embroidery hoop for Ms. Grace. Finally, we seemingly ignored the very valuable contribution made by young Denis Sheehy, until he pointed it out to us - the hours and days he spent typing all that extra dialogue which Jimmy added into the play !! Apologies indeed. Sincere thanks to all those who donated raffle prizes and gave cash donations, your generosity is much appreciated, especially during these tough economic times.
As usual, we will be donating a certain amount of the takings to a chosen charity. Over the past five years, due to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to donate over €14,000 to various charities and good causes. This makes it very worthwhile and satisfying for all concerned.
