GRANAGH NOTES 25/26 JAN.

GRANAGH  PLAYERS:
' Tarry Flynn '  took the stage at the week-end and we were delighted with the response from the audiences.  As usual they gave us great support and encouragement which the cast  and crew really appreciate.   After three months rehearsing, you always hope that the play goes down well and people like it - so far, the reports are vey good.   Our newcomers have all been brilliant - Muireann O'Connor, Isabelle O'Meara, Marguerite Lynch, Kevin Fitzgibbon and Johnny Hanley.    It is nerve-wracking for most actors to stand out there in the spotlights and try to act naturally so well done to everyone.    Marylee says she is liable to get her cows, heifers and bulls mixed up some night and she wont even realise when it happens  !!    Our animals will have a rest for the week, which is no harm as Kevin thinks the heifer is slightly constipated..... Our horse has now been christened 'Knockfierna' after the big win in Thurles last week.
As Patrick Kavanagh's background was farming, it is naturally included in the background of the play.   The chickens are in Tarry's way all the time, Muireann is getting used to milking 'the strawberry' but getting less milk every night.!    Patsy Power is searching for ducks this year but takes time out to preside as officious judge Maggie Finnegan in the mock trial.  Petey ( Richard O'Donoghue) is getting nowhere with Mary (Emma Chawke) - Charlie ( John Bennett) will have to try a different approach..!   Fr. Anthony ( Tony Sheahan) has the life frightened out of the congregation, at the mission.
All in all , there is a lot going on through the play and as there are so many characters, some of the actors have to double up on parts.
A huge thanks to all our helpers and crew, too many to list, who saw that everything ran seamlessly once again, they are absolutely wonderful.    Thanks to Nora O'Keeffe for taking photos for the paper and to Denis for coming along, even though he was not feeling very well on the night.    Birthday wishes were sent to Hanora Fennessy ( Marylee's sister) who had celebrated a significant birthday the previous night.   Fr. Joe Cussen was in the audience as was Eoin from Portumna again this year.    Next weekend we have some coming from a very warm Majorca to check us out, so Mick will have to have the heating a notch higher.?                                                                              Míle Buíochas to all those very generous people who once again donated spot prizes, we were in awe !   We had been thinking of reducing the number of raffle prizes this year but we cannot, we have to have ten prizes per night, such is the generosity of our supporters.
We are looking forward to another great week-end of drama with plenty of laughs, Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th, 8.00pm.
