Kilpeacon Presentation:
Granagh Development Association were delighted to welcome the members of Kilpeacon Church Restoration Project to the
community centre on Tuesday 20th, where a share of the proceeds of the Garden Walk were being presented to us.
Marian Noonan, opened the proceedings by welcoming everyone, especially, Lady Harrington, Rev. Gary Poulson
and Norman Wheeler, Chairman of the project.
The idea originally came about last February, after Lady Harrington attended one of our drama nights.   She  approached
Brid O'Gorman, and said she would like to have a fundraiser for the Development Assoc.   She also mentioned that Kilpeacon Church             were about to carry out repairs to the tower and that maybe the two could be incorporated.
The Association were extremely grateful for her most generous gesture and agreed to help out in any way possible.
At the first meeting with Lady Harrington, she said she would open her gardens to the public and all monies collected would be divided between both groups.   Norman Wheeler also came on board and all was arranged for Sunday June 19th.
The Association  was delighted to be able to provide helpers on the gate, car parkers and also supply the teas on the day.
Marian complimented  Lady Harrington along with Ned, Rita, Patrick and Jenny on the trojan work that was done over the previous number of months to have the whole place looking so good.
Marian thanked all the helpers involved for their hard work, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and she hoped that Lady Harrington was pleased with the outcome.   She said there was a wonderful spirit of co-operation between the two groups who had never met each other before that day.   Finally, Marian thanked Lady Harrington, most sincerely for her thoughtfulness and generosity and said the money will be put to good use as the Association have plans for major refurbishment of the centre.
Norman Wheeler gave us a rundown on the mammoth task that was involved in repairing the three hundred year old church , which came in at an estimate of €79,000.    All fundraising was most welcome and he said it was a most enjoyable day for everyone, and very profitable.  He thanked Lady Harrington  again  for her generosity and for feeding all her helpers on the day.
Lady Harrington herself said it was a terrific pleasure to have the open day and she would love to hold one again next year.
Rev. Gary Poulson, the new Rector of the Adare parishes, had only left his parish in south Africa on 19th July so missed out on the day.   He was delighted to be asked to the function and hoped to be around for next year.
With that, Anna Davis, Treasurer,  presented Mike O'Regan with a cheque for €1,474.00.   We then  adjourned for the usual cuppa.
