SPRING CLEAN :
Clean up of the Kilatal Road will take place Wednesday night 20th April. Meeting at Chawkes Cross at 7.00pm,
all help welcome. Bags are provided by An Taisce, limited supply of gloves, so bring your own and if
possible hi-visibility vests.
NATIONAL SCHOOL:
Congratulations to Sean Murphy and Shane Collins on winning prizes in recent Art Competitions.
Sean won a scooter as first prize in the Limerick Racecourse Art Compet. Shane will be presented with his
Special Merit Award in the Texaco Art Compet, at the end of May in Dublin.
The students in fourth, fifth and sixth classes took part in a soccer blitz in Rathkeale, last week, under coach Seamus
Murphy. The girls were placed second and the boys third, well done to all.
The school garden is already planted up under the expert eye of Mr. Sheehan.
TEA DANCING:
We had a most enjoyable finish to our dancing season on Sunday. Marian thanked all our loyal patrons who support our
dance without fail each month. They come from all over, Bruree, Ballingarry, Croom, Manister, Granagh, Newcastle, Rathkeale,
Monagea, Ardagh and Glin and are a lovely group. She also thanked them for their generosity in bringing spot prizes as well as all the ladies who supply the delicious home baked goods. Without our dedicated committee , it could not continue - Anne and Mary
on the door , Mike the dishwasher, Martin and Sean on the tea, Anne on the raffle, the two Eileens and Mary in the kitchen.
We had a two celebrations on the day, Maria Broderick formerly of Kilmacow, was celebrating her birthday with a group of her friends from Newcastle. Also , Liam and Mary O'Riordan, Manister, regular dancers, were celebrating their Ruby Anniversary, forty years of marriage.
DEVELOPMENT ASSOC:
We held our annual celebration night in the community centre last Friday night to honour the members of Granagh Players and those
who contributed to the successful running of ' The Shaughraun ', over three weekends. The producer and cast members were presented
with a small token, as a thank you, for the time and dedication given to the play.
COMMUNITY GAMES: Gymnastics: We had three girls compete in this competition in the U/10 category Eve Higgins, Sophie Alymer and Therese Noonan. All three performed their routine elegantly and were a joy to watch. The standard of competition was very high and Eve Higgins did fantastic to claim third spot. Well done girls.
Swimming A: This event took place last Sunday in Askeaton and in the U/10 category Eve Higgins was our swimmer. In the Girls U/10 Freestyle she confidently won her heat and in the final did brilliant to win Silver. Congratulations Eve.Sean English had a marvelous swim in the Boys U/14 Breaststroke which was over two lengths. Sean powered his way to Gold in the Final having also won his heat. Sean will now compete in the national finals in Athlone. Well done Sean.
Art and Handwriting: Last Tuesday night Rathkeale hosted the Art and Handwriting presentation. In the U/8 section Michael Sheahan collected fourth prize while his brother Mark picked up Gold in the Boys U/10. Ashutosh Yadav collected Gold in the Boys U/12 and Eoin Sheahan claimed third place. Many thanks to Rathkeale for hosting such an enjoyable evening.
