LOCAL NOTES - 16/17 March

St. PATRICK'S  DAY
Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig .
Mass Times:    Wed 16th, Granagh 7.00pm.   Thur 17th, Ballingarry 11.30am.
St. Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish:  anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck.   Most importantly,
to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for              missionaries worldwide.
It is also a day when we think of our family, friends and relations who are living abroad or away from home.
If you are free,  be sure to get out and support  the local parades, all free entertainment.
The Joey Hannon Walk/Fun Run takes place in Croom on the day, in aid of Chernobyl Childrens' Trust & the Church heating Fund.   Registration 1.15pm at the Community Centre.
Did you know -  the very first St. Patrick's Day parade was not in Ireland  it was in Boston, Massachusetts in 1737.
Green was a sacred colour to the Egyptians representing the hope and joy of spring, which is why temple floors were covered in this colour .
It is estimated that there are about 10,000 regular three-leaf shamrocks for every lucky four-leaf one.
