LOCAL NOTES - 9th & 10th FEB.

GRANAGH  PLAYERS:
After an unplanned extra night, added to our six night run, we finished on a high, Sunday last.
The Producer, Cast and Crew were in great spirits  and approached the night with as much energy, as if it was their first.
Speakers from the GAA, Soccer and Camogie thanked the cast most sincerely, for being so generous with their time and talents
and each of the clubs appreciated what was being done for them.
Our dedicated volunteers arrived once again and took up their starting positions, ready to greet the crowds.
Our Committee and volunteers are a fantastic group of people:-  they give up their time, work willingly and cheerfully,  all
to support other community members in activities such as this play.   As a result of this work, all profits made , go directly back to the Community Centre, for its upkeep, so that it is available for all voluntary groups and organisations to use,  at a minimum cost.
The Drama, especially, is a big undertaking, as you are dealing with crowds, so organisation and timing is vital.   Each  person's job, big or small,  is so important  to the overall plan and any missing link can cause an upset.    When we arrive each night, there are always three people there ahead of us, Mick and Sean are organising the chairs and have the  heating powered up.   Marian has a never-ending supply of boxes to be brought in from the car   - sandwiches, buns, raffle prizes, tickets, tea, sugar, milk  and stocks for the shop.   There isn't even room for Tom , to travel with her. !
Next to arrive are the make-up ladies, we had to have three this year to cater for all the cast, some needed more work done than others !!
Mary and Emma Morrissey and Jade Cuthbert are poised and ready with  their sponges , brushes and powders to work their magic..
I'll bet the lads are already missing out on all the pampering  they got from the girls.!!!
All of a sudden the dressing room is full - Patsy is searching for her feathers,  Tom can't get into his collar, Theresa has another broken axe,  Marylee is pinning wigs to heads, Tony polishing his buttons,  Jimmy trying to keep an eye on his Guinness and grouse,  Brid tries to get forty winks after a busy day, John and Liam compare facial hair, Seamus checks his person for weapons, Emma practices her ologóning, Carmel joins her in a duet and  Richard is looking for blood.
Meanwhile, sitting quietly in the corner, the four smugglers are sipping Lattes..!!!!         It takes all kinds to make up a wonderful cast.
The backstage crew of two, Mike and Eileen, on lighting and continuity, have nearly got used to working in sync, they were down to just one argument per night...
Our  audiences came from near and far, our own loyal  parish supporters, neighbouring parishes and further afield - a young man arrived from Portumna one night.
This year we were just stunned at the number of people who donated prizes for the Raffle, we had up to thirty sponsors which was fantastic - in a year where all business' are finding it very difficult to survive.   We are indebted to them for their generosity and thoughtfulness.
As PRO, I must thank Matt O'Callaghan and staff of the Observer and Vale Star for the fantastic coverage they gave us.   These papers are read in every parish in Limerick and Cork  which is a vital link for all in rural communities.   We can keep up-to-date with what's going on and so support our neighbours in their activities also.
Many thanks to West Limerick102 , Ballyhoura Community Radio and 95Fm Radio Stations for giving us interviews and air time.
Finishing up our night, Jimmy Chawke - our own Shaughraun - named out all who helped in any way, and thanked them most sincerely.
Jimmy Sheehy had a few words to say to close the night.   He thanked his family, friends, neighbours for all the help he had received over the past difficult year and he thanked the cast for keeping almost sane the rest of the time....

The Ballingarry/Granagh U/13 choir continued their fantastic run of success when they took gold in the county final held in Caherconlish.  Against stiff opposition all of their hours of dedicated rehearsal and practice paid off.    Fresh after a terrific run in Limericks Got Talent ,          Noelle Dunworth and Susie Butler can be justifiably proud of their charges in taking Gold in the county final.                                                            Well done to all and best of luck in the Munster final which should take place sometime in March.
