GRANAGH PLAYERS &
COLLEEN BAWN:
Following on from the Colleen Bawn Trail organised by Patrick C. Fitzgerald on 23rd June, phase two took place
last weekend. It was postponed on Saturday as it poured all day long so Nationwide filmed it on Sunday,
which turned out to be beautiful morning. The re-enactment of the murder took place in lovely Lough Gur.
Ellen Hanley was portrayed by the flame-haired Janet Leahy, the villain Scanlan by Steven Chawke and the
boatman by Seamus Murphy. The next scene in Bruff Courthouse, depicted the trial, where Jim Chawke portrayed
Daniel O'Connell. Looking forward to seeing a famous piece of local history played out on national tv.
Scheduled date for televising is Wednesday 21st July.
