U12s ARE CHAMPIONS:

On Sunday 16th the U12s were truly delighted to bring a second piece of silverware to the Club. The League playoff versus Athea was held in

the Newcastle West grounds on a lovely cool Summers' evening. This match would have to go to extra time and penalties if required.

Tensions were high as the match began and it took a time to settle down. Granagh fought hard for every ball and got a number of shots on the goal,

but could not get them in the net. Rebecca was replaced by Bradley Daly, in goals, and he was kept on his toes too. Just before half time, Edward

made a pass to Jack who let it rip and lobbed in the ball over the goalies' head. This was a great boost to the confidence.

In the second half both sides came out fighting, so to speak, and the game flowed from end to end, both goalies making great saves. After fifteen

minutes, Athea got a breakthrough and even though Bradley stopped it, it slipped from his hands and rolled into the net. This was where the nail biting started.!

The game continued at a fast pace, and even though the legs were weary they couldn't give up. With about four minutes to go, Seanie Cahill (captain)

received a lovely pass and he went right through and buried it. All we wanted to hear at that stage was the whistle and when it did blow, what a relief.

The convoy did the usual mini tour of Granagh, horns blowing and ended up at the shop. Tom instinctively knew we had good news and he most generously

supplied minerals and crisps to the gang. Many thanks from the Club.

Congratulations to both teams for a very sporting match, and they were complimented afterwards that no cards were issued or nothing said to referee .

It has been a long campaign since last August but fair play to the whole panel for sticking with it and thanks to their managers Timmy Cotter and Jimmy Sheehy.

Our two girls, Rebecca Noonan and Áine Sheehy are finishing up this year with under twelves and what a memorable way to end their year.

Dublin Bound.

Best of luck to the four Granagh Utd players, Kyle Cotter, Bradley Daly, Jack O'Donoghue and Edward Sheehy, who will all be travelling

to Dublin with the Limerick Desmond U12 Inter League side this Saturday, for the All Ireland Final against DDSL.
