TEA DANCING:
We had a great evening's dancing on Sunday last with Pakie Moloney and Seamus Sheehy providing the entertainment.
They are a fabulous band that have a big following and no wonder with their mix of great vocals and wonderful music.
Many thanks to the ladies who made sandwiches, apple tarts and sponges, they were much appreciated by all.
Hard to believe we only have two Dances remaining, the months are flying by, next date is March 21st with
Liam O'Sullivan on stage.
GRANAGH PLAYERS:
Delighted to report we are down to our last box of DVD's, they are still winging their way around the world, England, USA and
Germany have taken deliveries. Locally O'Gormans' have a supply as well as Geraldine Dollery, Bruree. Thank you to all
who have made purchases and we hope you get as much enjoyment from it , as we had in making it.
We are making the first of our presentations to representatives from The Alzheimer's Day Unit, Adare and The Crudem Foundation,
Haiti, on Saturday 6th March in the Community Centre.
HAITI UPDATE:
Report from Dr. Peter Kelly, President CRUDEM Foundation.
Hospital Sacre Coeur, Milot. - We are now one month and eleven days after the earthquake and are starting to settle into
a long term plan for patient care. It is hard to describe the emotions of the volunteers and the Haitian people, but one volunteer expressed the
following. " A lot of people who haven't been here probably think what happened is old news. I know people aren't as interested in hearing
about us anymore. That always happens, but it's hard to accept. Haitians, of course, are used to it. They are used to people losing
interest in their plight, this time they had hoped it would be different ......" Up to 15th Feb, the patient census was three hundred and twenty
four and we are still accepting patients from Port Au Prince that require specialty care. This means we need at least six primary care
physicians for adult patients and three pediatric physicians for children, each week. In addition twenty plus nurses are required to help with
patient care. The current focus is on drilling new wells to supplement the increased need for water to improve sanitation. The effort to recruit
40 to 50 volunteers each week, get their personal data, credentials and document their travel plans is overwhelming to say the least. There is
a team of six people who function on less than four hours of sleep a night, to accomplish this task and among those is Denise Kelly, Graigacurra.
Because it is not the top news story any more, we tend to forget, but people out there cannot.! Have a look at the following on Youtube -
