SOCCER
SUPPORTERS enjoyed encouraging progress
in almost all categories of Granagh United
this week. The local underage regiments were
victorious as the following results clearly
show that they really meant business.
U/8’s opened the show with an 8-nil over
Glantine. Top scorer was Gearoid Lynch, three
goals, Shane Collins two, with Sam O’Sullivan,
David O’Riordan, Darragh Clifford one goal
each.
U12’s beat Askeaton 5 to 2 on Sunday.
Granagh goals were scored by Jack
O’Donoghue 2, Kyle Cotter 1, Edward Sheehy 1
and Richard Walsh 1
U16’s completed a fine league result this
week, had the better of our friends from the
Coast Road, Pallaskenry with a 4 to 1 win for
the local U16’s. Helping the Granagh side on
their way in this encounter were: Seamus
Collins, Niall Clifford, Alan Chawke, Padraig
Lynch, each had a well taken goal contributing
to these league points.
A current look at the table shows: u/8’s in
second place division three, u/10’s division
four, are in first place. U/16’s division three
hold a solid position at third place. Junior
(adults) grade division three, B, are currently
holding second place in the Desmond League
with a game in hand.

CAMOGIE CLUB
Granagh/Ballingarry senior camogie team
reached the county final last weekend and
faced the holders Killeedy with admirable
courage/determination to set the early pace
putting it up to the champions from the
throw in and only a bit of hard luck found
them short two points at the end. The final
score Killeedy 2-10 Granagh/Ballingarry 1-11.
Over the last few years some new names had
to be added to the panel due to a few players
retiring and the performance of the current
panel must be recognised as truly outstanding,
and this young team looks to have an
even brighter future.
Granagh/Ballingarry senior camogie team
now includes Aileen O’Sullivan, Fiona Chawke,
Nollaig Houlihan, Lisa Potter, Amy McCarthy,
Aoife Sheehan, Fiona Hickey, Tara Power,

SYMPATHY
The unexpected death of John Lyons R.I.P.,
Athlacca was deeply regretted by the
Dromin/Athlacca Community and the surrounding
parishes.
The late John Lyons R.I.P. was a very well
known and popular supporter of all the card
games in the district.
He was also a very dedicated follower of
sport and showed a very deep interest in the
reports and outcome of hurling matches, and
horse racing in particular.
His old style method of visiting his friends
and neighbours all around
Athlacca/Bruff/Bruree/Granagh was much
admired, and showed a good natureness, not
seen for some decades, was only one of the
many virtues that the late John Lyons R.I.P.
portrayed throughout his life.
His funeral to Athlacca Church on Wednesday
evening and burial on Thursday after concelebrated
Requiem Mass at the local cemetery
was attended by a large and representative
congregation.
May he rest in peace.
