Local Notes 4th November

COMHBHRÓN:

Sincere sympathy to the relatives and friends of the late Paddy Hannon, Kilmacow, who passed away after
a short illness. A quiet, easy going gentleman who always had time for a chat.

YOUTH CLUB:

GRANAGH UNITED F.C.

The club will be holding a Table Quiz, in the Rock Bar, Granagh, on Friday night 5th Dec. at 9.30pm sharp.
Your support would be much appreciated.

On Saturday 1st Nov, the U14s were at home to Kildimo in a top of the table clash. Our lads started well but
after ten minutes and against the run of play, Kildimo were the first to score. The local boys kept their heads and
three minutes later, Jack Walsh had us back on level terms with a fine strike at goal. This was soon followed by a
David Condon speciality, when he gained possession in the middle of the pitch and drilled an unstoppable shot past the
keeper, to make it 2 - 1 at half time.
In the second half things were still very even until Granagh were awarded a free about thirty yards out, which Niall Clifford
stepped up to take and put away with excellent precision. Jack Walsh found the net for the second time with another great
goal to make it 4 - 1. Kildimo kept on trying and were rewarded with their second goal soon after. However, a superb kick
out from David O'Donnell, set Martin Roche up for his first goal of the season, which he put away with great confidence to end
the game with a 5 - 2 victory. An excellent team display.

On the same afternoon the U10s were at home to Ballingarry. As usual, these games are guaranteed enjoyment and this was no
different. Both teams gave their all from the kick-off and Granagh were the first to score when Dean Kenny found the back of the net.
This was closely followed by another great score from Eoin Clifford to leave the score 2 - 0 at the half time whistle. Midway in the
second half Richard Walsh scored a cracker of a goal. An OG resulted in the Granagh Boys coming away with a 4 - 0 win.
Well done to their trainer Seamus Murphy, who has the difficult job of picking and choosing on the day but he is very fair and
tries to give everyone a chance to play. Kevin Clifford, himself, was the referee on the day and did a great job.

On Sunday 2nd, the Juniors were at home to Ferry Rangers in the second round of the Reidy Cup. These two teams were very
evenly matched and after ninety minutes, the game remained level at 0-0. We then entered into extra time and Ferry were the first
to break the deadlock and at half time of extra time, Ferry were still up a goal. The final fifteen minutes were very exciting. In the
dying seconds Granagh were awarded a thirty yard free which Denis Noonan floated into the box and John Carroll tucked into the back
of the net. So, after two hours of play there was still nothing between the two sides and we were treated to a penalty shoot-out.
After both sides had kicked five penalties, all was still level and it came down to sudden death to decide which team would progress to
the next round, unfortunately for Granagh, Ferry Rangers progress, but we wish them the very best of luck in the next round.

GRANAGH UTD. LOTTERY:

There was no winner of the E 10,400 in the lotto draw, last Friday 31st. Numbers drawn were 3,7,17,28.
Lucky Dip winners of E20 each were, Michael Kiely, Croom, Katie Fitzgerald and Gerry O'Donovan.
Next weeks jackpot is E 10,500.

YOUTH CHOIR:

The choir will be performing again in Granagh on Sunday 16th Nov and 9.30am Mass. Looking forward to hearing them again.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS:
