CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS:
During the Christmas Masses and Services we might think of those who are less well off than ourselves and there are
many. There are those who do not look forward to Christmas for one reason or another, be it tensions at home,
addictions of any kind, abuse, depression etc. There are those who are dealing with or facing serious illness , those
who are bereaved, those in hospitals and rest homes, the elderly and lonely. They all need our thoughts, our prayers
and our most precious gift, time.

The Choir will be singing for the 8.00pm Mass in Ballingarry, on Saturday 7th Dec.
YOUTH CLUB:
Congratulations to Leaders and members on their participation last Saturday, in the Youth Club
Fashion Show in Limerick. The club entered three of the five categories.
Isabelle O' Mara and Sophie Butler entered the ' Swinging Sixties' category with Isabelle modelling
her ' Woodstock ' style outfit, flowing flowery dress, bare feet, flower tattoos and her guitar. Even though
she floated down the catwalk, drugs were definitely not used !!
Jessie Stapleton and Sara Noonan entered the ' Funky Disco Seventies' category. They based their
theme on the Abba dress style, knee high white boots, glittery top, skinny jeans and lots of brightly coloured
make-up. Jessie modelled this outfit as she was the only one who fitted into those jeans....
The ' Romantic Eighties ' category was a collaboration between Kaylee, Emma, Laura, Stephanie and
Annemarie. They went for one of ' Madonnas ' looks, black velvet bustier and mini skirt, high heels and
of course the blonde hair. This outfit was modelled beautifully by Julie Brosnan.
We were all delighted when Julie was announced as overall winner on the day and she was presented with
a beautiful make-up gift box. Many thanks to Theresa Noonan for doing the girls make-up.

Your support would be much appreciated and a great night is assured.
LOTTERY: There was no winner of the € 2,000. in the draw last weekend. The numbers drawn were
6, 17, 18, 24. Lucky Dip winners of € 20. each were, Mary Clifford, Sean Cagney and Tom Sexton.
Next week's jackpot is € 2,100.
MATCH REPORTS:
On last Saturday, 29th the U10s travelled away to play Old Mill. All the team played very well on the
day. One goal apiece from Eoin Clifford, Dean Kenny and Sean J, ensured that the victory went to Granagh.
Final score was 3 - 1. Well Done.!
On the same morning the u14s travelled to Killaney to play their team for the second time this season. A very
close battle was fought out here, with some excellent football played by both sides. A combination of free taking
from Niall Clifford and goal scoring from Daniel Shelton resulted in a final score of 2 - 2. A fair result on the
day.
On Sunday morning, 30th, the Juniors were at home to Broadford. Granagh settled into this game very quickly,
but despite this they found it hard to find the target. After thirty minutes of play, Peter O'Donovan opened the scoring,
closely followed by Kevin Fitzgibbon, to leave it 2 - 0 at half time. Broadford got one back early in the second half,
but the Granagh lads never panicked and Peter O'donovan had them up 3 - 1 again soon after.
Pat Carroll added the fourth goal to put the result beyond doubt. It ended 4 - 1 to Granagh.
PARENTS ASSOC:
Just to make all the parish families aware, the parents' council will have Christmas Cards on sale shortly, a pack of

The MC was Ciara Sheehy. Dorothy was played by Ellen Murphy, Scarecrow by Olivia Bennett, The Lion by
Mallory Hennessy and Tin Man by James Stapleton. We had two Munchkins, Loic Hennessy and Ashling Herlihy.
Glinda was played by Beth Stapleton and the Witch by Sarah Condon.

CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Christmas appeal to the Friends of St. Ita’s supporters, perhaps you might consider a donation to the Friends of St. Ita’s Hospice fund in lieu of Christmas gifts to your family and friends this Christmas. A similar appeal last year was a huge success and raised €3,095 for the hospice fund. All donations will be acknowledged and in return the Friends of St. Ita’s will supply cards to pass on to your friends. The Friends would also like to take this opportunity to say a sincere thank you to all their supporters for their ongoing very generous support.
Cards can be had from Fergus Scanlan, chairman of the Friends of St. Ita’s and Nora O’Keeffe, Main Street, Ballingarry.
SYMPATHY
Local Gaeles were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Paddy Hannan after a short illness. He spent a peaceful life running the farm on which he was born in the townland of Kilmacanerla. He was a traditionalist at heart and was always an enjoyable character to meet. He had many a good, long discussion on current affairs especially hurling. Having played with the local club he took a keen interest in all games and remained a loyal and very generous supporter of Granagh GAA club.
He was also a great supporter of the local church and indeed all parish enterprises. His passing heralds the end of an era, when time for conversation with friends and neighbours was valued higher than the frantic money-making and consumerism of recent times. It could be said he got the work/life balance just right.

Granagh Notes for 26th / 27th November
DEVELOPMENT ASSOC:
Thanks to Nora O' Keeffe for her beautiful photos, in last week's Observer, of our Afternoon Tea Dancers. They were all looking fabulous.
The Officers and Committee members prepared a display stand for the meeting in Ballingarry last Friday night. The Hall was full with all the
local organisations in the parish represented. There are a wide variety of groups, all doing their own bit, providing services in the community.
The parish would be a much poorer place without all these volunteers, who are keeping the community spirit alive. We hope they will be
encouraged to keep going and hope that they will be joined by many new members.
PILATES:
Our last class will be held on this coming Thursday night. Thanks to all who attended, to our instructor, Maria Fitzgerald and to
Ann Hickey for making all the arrangements.
YOUTH CHOIR:
Members will be meeting again on Thursday 27th from 6.30pm - 7.15pm for Church choir practise.
YOUTH CLUB:
The fashion show is taking place on Saturday 29th in the basement of Lava Javas Coffee shop. It is timed for 3pm and
due to finish at 6pm. They are hoping clubs can meet in there around 1.30pm .
The last club night for this year is on Friday 5th Dec, when we break for the Christmas season.
In the New Year, we are hoping to arrange a few sessions a number of nights
DEFIBRILLATORS:
Thanks so much to all who have contributed so far. The boxes will probably be in the shops for another week and any donation, no matter
how small, will be gratefully received. If you are interested in being trained in the use of a Defibrillator and CPR please give your name to
any of the following committee members :- Breda O'Keeffe, Nuala Stapleton, John Lynch, Ann Hickey, Patricia O'Kelly, Deborah English and
Nora Mullane.
GRANAGH PLAYERS:
Billy Roche's plays have an enigmatic quality to them. On the surface they glimmer with nostalgia and affection for a bygone time in
small-town Ireland. His stories are of dreams unfulfilled, ambition thwarted and a country more modest, more simple, more honest.
However, below that glimmer is not always gold, there is a darkness lurking beneath. The way he combines good yarns, music, and comedy
is the source of his brilliance.
Rehearsals are going well, the producer hasn't fallen out with anyone yet or vica versa.! The cast put in two hours per night, two or three times
a week after a hard days work, it is hard going. It takes great commitment and dedication from everyone to get a production like this off the
ground and run to a successful conclusion.
This week we will reveal what the two ladies in the play are up to. Eileen, played by Marylee Stapleton, is the pretty daughter of the bookie-
shop owner, Steven and provides the love interest in the play. She helps out in the shop even though she doesn't really like the job.
About ten years previously, her mother ran away with the local ' wild boy ' and she hasn't seen her since.
Floors are mopped and the place is cleaned by Molly, played by the one and only Brid O'Gorman. She has plenty practise keeping her own
shop clean during the day, so no need to rehearse that anyway. Seemingly Molly ' was a fine hoult in her day ' , we are told but she is
still mourning the loss of the ' wild boy ' who choose Eileen's mother to run away with !! She can be deadly contrary though with a fierce
sharp tongue and she lets fly whenever she feels like it. !
The men are trying to keep on her good side, but it is hard going !
GRANAGH UNITED F.C.
The Jackpot was won !
The Club would like to congratulate Colette & Brian Aherne, Charleville, on winning the € 10,700 in the lottery draw held last Friday 21st.
The winning numbers drawn were 11, 12, 26, 28. Next week's jackpot is € 2,000.

Jackpot winner, Colette Aherne, Charleville, receiving her cheque from Kevin Clifford with Chairperson Kevin Fitzgibbon.
Remember the Table Quiz in the Rock Bar, Granagh, Friday 5th Dec at 9.30pm sharp. Get your tables organised and come along to
support the Club.
On Saturday morning 22nd, the U12s were at home to Breska Rovers. Prior to the start of the game the team were presented with their new kit,
which was very kindly sponsored by Richard O'Donoghue and Liam Herlihy. The Club would like to thank Richard and Liam for their very
generous sponsorship.

GRANAGH UTD. U12S in their new kit, with sponsors Richard O'Donoghue and Liam Herlihy.
So, with the new gear on, the boys took to the pitch with great determination and got stuck in from the start. "They
played some very fine football and a s a result of this, Kyle Cotter found the back of the net, twice and James Herlihy helped himself to one.
The final score was 3 - 0.
On the same morning, the U16s travelled to Broadford to play their Division 1 side in the first round of the cup. This was always going to be a
difficult task for the boys but our lads played some good football and made Broadford fight hard for every score they got. Broadford ran out
comfortable winners on the day and we wish them the best of luck in the next round. They will be a difficult team to beat.
On Sunday 23rd, the Juniors played Creeves Celtic at home. This game was played in terrible weather conditions and Creeves were the
first to find the net and were up 1 - 0 at half time. Our lads lifted their game in the second half and found the goal they deserved early in the
half when Devin Fitzgibbon passed a nice ball to Peter O'Donovan in the Creeves box which he tucked away nicely. Twenty minutes later it
was Peter who found the back of the net again, to give us the lead. However, with only seconds left on the clock, Creeves punished us with
a free that hit the roof of the net and levelled the game to make the final score 2 -2.

DEVELOPMENT ASSOC:
Thanks to all who volunteered their time and support last Sunday for our second Tea Dance. We were delayed starting this week, as the
Band travelled from Waterford and naturally enough got lost on their way to us. However, when they got going they were very good.
We were delighted that the Ballingarry folk arrived again and hope they enjoyed their evening. Thanks to all who went to the trouble of
baking some homemade cakes, they were thoroughly enjoyed by everybody.
The December Dance will be held on Sunday 21st.
GRANAGH UNITED F.C.
The Club wishes to remind you that the Table Quiz is being held in the Rock Bar, Granagh, Friday 5th December, starting at 9.30pm sharp,
€ 40.00 per table. Please come along and support.
On Saturday morning 15th, the U14s were at home to Bally Rovers. This game was the halfway point of the league, for the boys and they
began determined to remain unbeaten and top of the table in Division 2.
This they managed to do in great style despite missing their sweeper and striker, they scored an amazing eight goals. Jack Walsh rallied
ahead as top goal scorer of the season to date, when he added another four excellent goals to his score sheet. We were also treated to a
terrific hat trick from Martin Roche and one great goal from a free kick, from Padraig Lynch. All of these eight goals were the result of great
team work and brilliant discipline, from the keeper right through to the strikers. The club would like to wish each member of the squad the
very best of luck for the rest of the season. Final score 8 - 0.
On Sunday afternoon, the Juniors were also at home to Division 2 side Pallaskenry in the second round of the Hogan Cup. From the kick-off,
the Granagh lads showed great determination and they played some excellent football, with precision passing from all. Even when they went
a goal down they never dropped their heads and fought hard to level the game again at 1 - 1, when Kevin Fitzgibbon found the back of the net.
At this point their confidence and belief in themselves was very high and they pressed on and found the net for the second time when Kevin Fitz
headed the ball from an excellent free, from Denis Noonan. Their style and determination on the day showed that Junior soccer is well and truly
going from strength to strength within the club again. So, what we need now is plenty of support for the lads on the sideline as they progress to
the next round of the Cup. Final score was 2 - 1.
GRANAGH UTD. LOTTERY:
There was still no winner of the € 10,600 in the lotto draw of the 15th November.
The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 23, 26.
Lucky Dip winners of € 20. each were John Mulqueen, James Hickey, John Murphy.
Next weeks Jackpot is € 10,700.
CHURCH YOUTH CHOIR:
Choir practice for the Church choir will be every second Thursday starting 13th November from 6.30pm to 7.15pm.
Should there be any changes, parents will be notified. Please note all children and youth attend the Church choir practice at the same time,
however there will be separate times for the community games practices.
COMMUNITY GAMES CHOIR:
This year we have been asked to enter the choir for the community games competition. As we have nearly forty children attending at the moment,
and community games only allow twenty in a choir, we are entering two choirs., U 13 and U16. If you wish your child to be in the community games
choir, there will be a registration night on Thursday 20th Nov, in Ballingarry Church. All children must be registered by a parent/guardian on the night,
in order to take part in the choir. A registration fee of € 5 applies. Even if you have registered already, you will still be required to sign a consent form
on this night. Community Games practise starts on Thursday 20th in Ballingarry Church and will be every second Thursday after that.
U13: 6.30pm - 7.15pm U16: 7.15pm - 8.00pm.

YOUTH CLUB:
Next Club night this Friday 21st, 8.00pm. Final preparations for the Fashion Show, bring all your clothes ! The models will need to practise their strut
for the catwalk.

GRANAGH PLAYERS:
After last week's notes, the producer contacted me to say I hadn't half enough written about him and duly sent me on six A4 pages of info about himself,
which I really must get around to printing, some time !
What haunts all the characters in ' Poor Beast in the Rain ' is the memory of friends or loved ones who have abandoned or betrayed them. None of the
six characters have broken free of the recent past. Trapped like flies in amber, they have nothing better to do than hang around the local bookmakers,
backing dogs and horses and anything else that moves. The high point in their lives is the All Ireland Hurling Final and everyone has an opinion on
that.! There are six characters in the play, two ladies and four men.
As the play is set in the late 1970s in an old fashioned betting shop, we are looking for the following :- Old style ash trays, old racing calendar, an old
telephone and any old signs to do with horses or dogs.
LOTTERY:

Local Notes 11th November
TEA DANCING:
The November dance will be held in the Community Centre on this coming Sunday 16th at 2.30pm.
Music by " A Touch of Blarney " with the usual High Tea and Raffle. Thanks to all who have been supporting us and
making this such an enjoyable event.
YOUTH CHOIR:
The fabulous youth choir will be singing at Granagh Mass, on Sunday 16th, at 9.30am.
The choir are entering the community games, choir competitions, for the first time. They have plenty members for the
Junior section but they need more members to enter the Senior section i.e. 13 -15 yrs. The competition will take
place in the New Year but rehearsals need to start shortly. New Members are very welcome to their usual choir practise,
Thursdays 6.30pm - 7.30pm.
YOUTH CLUB:
Thanks to the youth club members for returning the Christmas Shoe boxes. We received seven boxes which have now been
delivered to the collectors . If anyone still has a box you can drop them to me, closing date will be next Friday 16th.
DEFIBRILLATORS:
Most households in the parish have received the information leaflet regarding the fund raising for the defibrillators.
The Committee would appreciate a prompt return of donations. If you didn't receive an envelope, the collection
boxes are place in O'Gormans' and O'Gradys' shops. All donations most welcome.
A TRIBUTE:
Paddy Hannan R.I.P: Local Gaels were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Paddy Hannon after a short illness.
He spent a peaceful life running the farm on which he was born, in the townland of Kilmacanerla. He was a
traditionalist at heart and was always an enjoyable character to meet with. He had many a " good long discussion "
on current affairs, especially hurling. Having played with the local club he took a keen interest in all games and
remained a loyal and very generous supporter of Granagh G.A.A. club.
He was also, a great supporter of the local Church and indeed all parish enterprises. His passing heralds the end of
an era, when time for conversation with friends and neighbours was valued higher than the frantic money making and
consumerism of recent times.
It could be said he got the work-life balance just right. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam Dilísh.
BABY BOY:
Congratulations to Aileen and Seamus Murphy on the birth of their baby James, last week. Sean Dóta will be kept
busy !
GRANAGH PLAYERS:
After a late start - they are back in Action ! This year we have a change of producer, Mary Liston is taking a year out and
we are very lucky to be able to call on another producer, from within the parish bounds.! He is a busy man, an up-and -coming
Trappatoni, so I hear ! However, this year, because of the now benchmarked producers fees and the many perks of the job, his arm has
been twisted and we are delighted that last years' Pats Bocock has now taken over the reins.
Jimmy Sheehy has long been involved in Drama both as actor and producer. He took part in all the Macra Na Feirme productions
in which the Granagh Club won nine out of ten county titles in a row between 1977 and 1987. Jimmy himself produced three of these
plays and and won the overall producer's award in the All-Ireland for the play Stags & Hens.
This years play has been chosen - ' Poor Beast in the Rain '. It is not one of the better known names but it has been performed in the
Abbey in the 1990s, later broadcast on BBC, also in Oxford in 2000, New York in 2002 and Los Angeles 2008. Written by the
Wexford playwright, Billy Roche, it takes up the theme of life in Wexford in the late 1970s. Lots of goings on and great interaction between
the characters ! More anon !

GRANAGH UNITED F.C.
REMINDER!
Don't forget to start organising your teams for the table quiz in the Rock bar, Granagh, on Friday 5th Dec. starting at 9.30pm sharp.
A great nights entertainment guaranteed so please come along and support the club.
Despite the terrible weather conditions, two underage games went ahead as planned last Saturday the 8th Nov. The U12's travelled
away to Ballyhahill. Granagh came away with a convincing win after they managed to find the back of the net five times in total.
Edward Sheehy and James Dillon put in two excellent goals each and Kyle Cotter scored one. The final score was 5-2.
Well done to all the team.
The U16's were at home to Newcastle Rovers B. Due to some players being sick, Granagh had to start the game with only ten players.
Rovers were the first to score but a great goal from Stephen O' Brien levelled the game at 1-1. This was how the game remained until
the last few minutes of the game when Rovers managed to score a further two goals. Granagh lost 3-1 but with a full squad and better
conditions, things could have been very different.
