NOTES - 19th & 20th Jan

GRANAGH  PLAYERS:
All roads lead to the Community Centre this weekend as we stage our production of  ' The Shaughraun ', a romantic comedy, by Dion Boucicault.
Producer, Jimmy Sheehy is delighted with the results after the last number of months rehearsing.   He has a big cast of
seventeen to try and control but at this stage they are fairly well behaved.     The set is fabulous - it was built by Kevin and
Michael Clifford  and our artist in residence, Grace McCarthy, had the full stage as her canvas.    She made a fantastic job of it
and when you see it, take note of the old manor house - the design of which she based on her father Joe's homestead  in County Clare.
We have hugely talented people in the parish - this year we had our dressmaker Mary who gave up a huge amount of her time to make the
ladies costumes and we had Emer Power, first year college student, who spent a few nights with us taking photographs which we used for
the papers.   Our violinist Sophie Butler came on board in the last week and Denis Noonan was called on for some electrical work at the
last minute.
Of course our actors and actresses' are second to none and are a most dedicated group of people.   Along with our core group we have
nine new faces appearing on stage this year - Carmel Clifford, Liam Houlihan, Theresa Noonan, Emma Chawke, Tony Fitzgibbon,
Tony Sheahan, Eamon McMahon, John English and Liam Kelly.   It is always fantastic to have new faces and it makes for a great
atmosphere.
Patrick C. Fitzgerald called to the rehearsals and took some beautiful photos which he has up on the Granagh web site -
www.ballingarrynews.blogspot.com .    Pass on to family and friends who are away at present, so they can keep up to date with whets
happening at home.  New York and England have already logged onto the site.
