GRANAGH PLAYERS:
* THE FIELD *
We put in the cattle, put out the donkeys and closed the gate to the Field for the last time on Sunday night.!
After another weekend of high drama, traffic congestion, seating shortages, high blood pressure, hot flushes and
broken bones - the cast gave wonderful performances each night to packed houses. Earlier in the week we heard that
Martin Carroll, one of our front of house crew had - ' broke the proverbial leg ' accidently. Knowing that he wouldn't
be in attendance he did the next best thing , promoted the play to everyone he met, from the ambulance crew to the
nurses and doctors - as only a dedicated committee member would do. !!!!
Our front of house staff , minus one, bravely carried on and were kept on their toes all weekend. We estimate that they
met approx eighteen hundred people over the six nights. Audiences came from near and far, our two New Yorkers
arrived on the last night and it brought back many happy memories for them !
The audience members were to be commended for their attention, support and their generosity in purchasing raffle tickets.
The Committee were amazed at the generosity of those who donated fabulous raffle prizes, in this time of recession.
I don't know how the ticket sellers got around the crowds some nights, a bit of gymnastics were involved probably.?
Equally, our Sponsors were once again more than generous and it was very much appreciated.
The cashiers Anne and Mary - trained for every eventuality - had the company of five week old baby Charlie Hanley
( grandson of Christy Collins ) for a while one night, while his mum and granddad watched the play. They were doing very well until
it came to feeding time. Even though they were well equipped, it didn't do and they had to call on Tracey to return.
We think Mary got a little broody after that episode.??
The tea ladies, once again provided a delicious and most welcome tea which kept our sugar levels high throughout the play.
The cast also wished to thank the children who attended as they behaved so well and paid great attention in what was a long
play for them.
As exhaustion is setting in and I cannot keep the eyes open, I will have to finish off for now, more next week.
DVD's should be available at the shop next week.
Victory for U13 Choir:
Last Friday night, in Caherconlish, our Junior Choir won the County Championships in the Community Games Choir Competition. The standard this year was very high . They were up against some very strong opposition in the form of St.Senans, Kilmallock and Rathkeale. They will now go on to represent Limerick in the Munster Championships on the 27th March. Great credit is due to the children for all the hard work they put into practicing and to their parents who bring them every week without fail. This is a vital support . The discipline and respect shown by the children both on and off stage was especially noted by many. Noelle, Susie and Teresa would like to thank Sophie Butler and Fiona Purtill for all their help during rehearsals. Well done to everyone involved.
GET WELL:
Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to Sean Carey, Granagh and Patrick O'Carroll, Liskennett and Martin Carroll, Coolruss, all in hospital at present.

We travelled to Foynes on Saturday last for the second round in the Girls U13 Indoor Soccer. Our first match was against
Newcastle West which we won convincingly . We then played a tough Askeaton/Ballysteen Team and came out on top.
Our final game was against Feenagh/Kilmeedy which we also won. Well done to Rebecca Noonan, Aine Lenihan,
Aine Sheehy, Stephanie Anderson, Siobhan Toomey, Tara Lynch, Niamh Power and Rachel Anderson also to their
Managers Claire Anderson, Mary Noonan and Martha O’Connor.

Best of Luck Girls.
Draughts
Next Saturday we have two teams competing in the county finals of the Draughts competition U10 and U12 in Hospital
commencing at 2 pm.. Your support for these two teams would be much appreciated. If we are to have any chance of
medals we will have to be at our very best as we are in very difficult draws. Training next Thursday night at the earlier time
of 6.45 pm to 7.45 pm. Best of luck to all involved.
Cross Country Running
We would hope to start training for the Cross Country running within the next few weeks but we need Managers to do this.
We had over 50 kids take part last year in this event and were very successful in Rathkeale. It would be a pity to have to
pull out of this due to lack of Managers so if like the rest of us your child wants to take part please let it happen and help
out with training etc. Contact Anne on 087 9274241 to put your name down and lets get the training started.
YOUTH CLUB NEWS:
Glad to report that an effort is being made by a number of Ballingarry parents to try and get a Youth Club up and running in
Ballingarry again. At the last meeting with the Limerick Youth Service, eight parents had volunteered. However, they still
need at least another eight before they begin anything. The options are wide open at the moment, whether to have a full
parish club or just confined to Ballingarry. It will all depend on parents from Granagh volunteering to help out in the club.
Next Meeting for all parents :- Tuesday 9th Feb, 7.30pm at the Soccer Club, Ballingarry.
