DEVELOPMENT ASSOC:
DRAMA: Meeting on Thursday 15th Jan at 8pm. All those who are able to help out with arrangements for the
upcoming Play are most welcome to attend. As we saw from last year, without all the help we would not have
been able to cope.
As regards Sponsorship. The Committee decided not to approach the local business's this year, because of the
wonderful support we got last year and also because of the downturn in the economy, it will be difficult enough for everyone.
However, if anybody would like to donate items for the Raffle, we will accept them gratefully.
TEA DANCING: The January Afternoon Tea Dance will be held in the Community Centre, on Sunday 18th January,
2.30 - 5.30pm. Music by James O'Callaghan. Usual High Tea and Raffle. Admission € 5.p.p. Everyone welcome.
GRANAGH UTD. F.C.
Lotto Results: There was no winner of the € 2,400 in the lotto draw this week. Numbers drawn were 20,24,25,30.
Lucky dip winners of € 20 each were Denis Noonan, Jimmy Morrissey & Jimmy O'Gorman.
Next weeks Jackpot is €2,500.00
U12s: On Saturday 10th, our U12 team travelled to Ballingarry. This local derby contest was a close encounter from the
off. With a half time score of 0-0, it was all to play for in the second half and ten minutes in, it was Granagh that broke the
deadlock with a strike from Sean Cahill, ten yards out. Indeed this proved to be the only goal between these two sides to
give Granagh a 1-0 victory. Well done to both teams in a very keen contest.
U16s: Unfortunately, due to the bad flu that's going around, we had to give Creeves a W.O. as many of our players were
out of action.
Juniors: Sunday morning, 11th, our Juniors played host to Shauntrade in a game that Granagh could have been two up after
five minutes, only for some fine goalkeeping from Shauntrade. Indeed Granagh found themselves one down with Shauntrade first to
open the account but Granagh were back on level terms within two minutes, when Paul O'Brien scored.
Despite this Shauntrade got in for two more goals and Paul was on hand again to make the half time score of 3-2 in favour of
Shauntrade. Granagh started bright in the second half and this paid off when Kevin Fitzgibbon tucked away from the penalty
spot to level the game at 3-3. From then on, Granagh really put the opposition under pressure and a great solo run from Pat
Carroll up the wing, to pick out Fitzgibbon, who planted his shot in the top corner and put Granagh ahead 4-3. With seconds
left on the clock, Shauntrade who never gave up, got their reward when they scored the goal that shared the points.
The final score was 4-4.

Draughts: On Saturday last, the Ballingarry/Granagh U12 Draughts team made their competitive debut for 2009, in the hall Ballingarry.
We were drawn in Group 2, along with Caherdavin, Rathkeale B and Croagh/Kilfinny. Sadly on the day Rathkeale B withdrew from the
competition.
Ballingarry/Granagh were first into combat against Caherdavin and after a great contest, we emerged victorious. Next up was Croagh/Kilfinny,
our near neighbours. This too was a epic battle, and after some great play from our players we came out on top to qualify from our group
and go forward to the next round ( time & venue later). So to Cialinn Noonan, Claire Gohery, Kevin Noonan, Emer Morrissey and Siobhan
Twomey, well done and keep up the good work.
The Ballingarry/Granagh club would like to thank Rena O'Brien for officiating at the event, and who in turn would like to thank every manager,
player and supporter from all the six clubs, present on the day, for their behaviour and sportsmanship.
Training for U10 and U12 continues on Thursday night at 8.00pm ( note change of time) in the Hall Ballingarry.
Also a special thanks to parents who brought players to Ballingarry on Saturday last, in the cold weather, without your support we could not go on.

GRANAGH PLAYERS:
Reminder of the Dates:- ' Poor Beast in the Rain ' will be performed on Saturday and Sunday 24th & 25th Jan and again the following weekend
the 30th, 31st and 1st Feb at 8pm.
It is great to see it all coming together, the set has been re-designed and painted with just a few extra adjustments to be made.
The cast have thrown away their scripts, figuratively speaking anyway ! They have done their dress rehearsal.
However, we are still working on the make-up, some will need more than others and the false eye lashes... are causing deadly problems..
I dont know how they manage it but once again Jim Chawke and John Bennett are involved in a drinking scene . They seem to need to rehearse this
fairly often, even though, we all think, they had plenty practise last year.!
We are delighted to have Nora O'Keeffe as our official photographer again this year as she has the knack of making us all look fantastic in the paper.
Thanks also to Eileen Power, who is better than a courier service, collecting programmes and posters from the printers, for us.
Thanks to Eoin Butler, who is helping us out with recordings and CDs and Alan Whetham for his own special recording.
Special Note :-
Listen out to Live 95FM on this coming Saturday morning between 9am - 10am, to the John Prendergast Show.
Four members of the cast will be guesting on the programme, John Bennett, Jim Chawke, Marylee Stapleton and Brid O'Gorman. He will be
having a chat with them and they will be doing a section from the play, live on air.
